Red Tide Naples Florida – Is it affecting home sales?
Red Tide Naples Florida
Is Red Tide Affecting Naples Home Sales?
Is Red Tide Naples Florida a big issue? It’s a question I’m being asked daily, is Red Tide affecting Naples Home Sales or will it in the future? What about the water quality of the Gulf of Mexico? Marine animals washing up dead. What in the world’s going on and will I ever be able to sell my Naples home?
There is good news. The unfortunate issues we’ve been seeing over the last few weeks in Southwest Florida are currently not affecting the sales of homes. In fact, home sales are up from last year. I’m closely monitoring the reports on tourism activity and whether the Florida water quality issues have been impacting home sales.
In fact, even at the water’s worst conditions (a year ago – October 2018, tourism fell 1.8% but pending sales of Naples homes increased 17%.)
While tourism is the catalyst that brings people to Naples to discover the area and fall in the love, it does not appear to be directly affecting the housing market. From January to October 2018, tourism actually increased 2%. During this same time period, closed sales increased 5% and we don’t anticipate red tide to affect sales this season at this point in time.
